JLG X20JP: what it is for

The JLG X20JP is a 20 m compact tracked articulating boom (spider lift): 20.15 m working height, 9.05 m horizontal outreach and 230 kg unrestricted capacity.

Without the platform it is 0.795 m wide and 1.99 m high, so it drives through a standard 80 cm door and reaches places a wheeled boom cannot: atriums, halls, courtyards and gardens. The tracks widen hydraulically to 1.09 m for ramps, and stabilisation takes one button (2.92 × 2.92 m footprint).

Dual power as standard: a Honda iGX390 petrol engine and a 2.2 kW AC electric motor on mains power. Optionally, a Kubota diesel engine, a 7.7 kWh lithium pack with battery heaters, or bi-energy lithium + diesel, for work without a cable or emissions.

Transport and use

Transport: 2,900 kg (2,970 kg diesel, 3,000 kg lithium, 3,100 kg bi-energy), 5.01 m long with the platform (4.39 m without) and 1.99 m high: goes on a machine trailer or lorry, and can be moved by forklift (fork pockets) or crane (lifting eyes).

Where it works: indoors and outdoors. Fits through 0.80 m doorways without the platform and climbs ramps up to 28.7%. It always works on its outriggers (2.92 × 2.92 m footprint, up to 12° slope), with 3.04 daN/cm² per pad; on the tracks, 0.64 daN/cm².

Power: petrol outdoors, or mains electric (230 V) indoors. With the optional 7.7 kWh lithium pack it works without a cable or emissions, with about 4 h recharge time.

Operator: The operator must be properly trained to use mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs): the employer is required to ensure this (Decree-Law 50/2005). The IPAF/PAL card is the most widely recognised training.

Inspections: Like any work equipment that lifts people, it needs mandatory periodic inspections (DL 50/2005), in addition to the manufacturer's preventive maintenance.
