JLG X17JP: what it is for

The JLG X17JP is a 17 m compact tracked articulating boom (spider lift): 16.96 m working height, 7.00 m horizontal outreach and 230 kg unrestricted capacity.

Without the platform it is 0.80 m wide and 1.99 m high, so it fits through doorways and corridors and reaches places a wheeled boom cannot: interiors, atriums, courtyards and gardens. It works on auto-levelling outriggers (2.89 × 2.88 m footprint), and the non-marking tracks protect sensitive floors.

Dual power as standard: a Honda iGX390 petrol engine for outdoors and a 2.2 kW AC electric motor on mains power for emission-free indoor work. Optional 4.3 kWh lithium battery pack and Hatz diesel engine; cable remote control as standard, radio remote optional.

Transport and use

Transport: 2,190 kg (2,230 kg with engine), 4.53 m long with the platform (3.90 m without) and 1.99 m high: goes on a trailer or open-body van, and can be moved by forklift (fork pockets) or crane (lifting eyes).

Where it works: indoors and outdoors. Fits through 0.80 m doorways without the platform and climbs ramps up to 28.7%. It always works on its outriggers (2.89 × 2.88 m footprint, up to 12° slope), with 2.45 daN/cm² per pad; on the tracks, 0.67 daN/cm².

Power: petrol outdoors, or mains electric (230 V) indoors. With the optional lithium pack it works without a cable or emissions, with about 4 h recharge time.

Operator: The operator must be properly trained to use mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs): the employer is required to ensure this (Decree-Law 50/2005). The IPAF/PAL card is the most widely recognised training.

Inspections: Like any work equipment that lifts people, it needs mandatory periodic inspections (DL 50/2005), in addition to the manufacturer's preventive maintenance.
